The City’s Roman Story

The City of London is located on the original Roman settlement of Londinium. Founded around AD 50, Londinium grew to become a thriving town bustling with traders and people from every corner of the empire. 2,000 years on, the Romans return to the City with the Londinium season of events. Unearth the lost history and buried secrets of Roman London that lie beneath the City; explore London’s Roman baths, amphitheatre, Mithraeum and the Roman wall; and learn more about the history of London with a packed programme of interactive activities for all the family.


Explore the City’s Roman heritage with gladiator games, 3D animated projections, talks by leading historians including Professor Mary Beard, outdoor films and archaeological tours to historic London sites.

TDP’s Gustav Milne is presenting a lunchtime lecture at the Museum of London for Gresham College on 27th September, as well as two waterfront walks – the first on 28th September, and a second on 7th October.
