London at War

A talk introducing the theme of London at War and the three related walks taking place over the autumn. The talk will include references to collections held at the London Metropolitan Archives which relate to this topic. The walks will be held on 8 September, 22 November and 29 December. The Port of London at War

London knew it would be a target for enemy bombing and with the Port supplying 8 million mouths how would it cope? Plans were drawn up, but how successful were the precautions? Could anything stop London, its port and dockland from being obliterated? It all began on Black Saturday, 7 September 1940. Meet at Tower Hill. Walk ends at Shadwell.
