I’ve been reading TDP’s book this week and really enjoying it. It is a record of their unrelenting work; recording and researching the river’s fast eroding foreshore before it is lost forever. Archeological secrets – medieval jetties, prehistoric drowned forests and the hasty repair work done at the height of the Blitz to prevent the city from flooding through bomb damaged river walls – are revealed and also more delicate structures, such as fish traps and human burials, that have since washed away with the tides. A must read for anyone that has been captured by the magic and mystery of the River Thames.
