Saturday saw our first visit to Bankside, outside the Tate Modern, at the ungodly hour of 8.30am. We were accompanied by 2 new FROG recruits and 2 young “tadpoles”. We found a number of features that were recorded in the 1996 survey and these appeared to have been badly eroded. There were large spreads of chalk and glass from barge beds, and one of the sets of steps down to the foreshore was very worn at the sides by the tide. The tadpoles enjoyed collecting various bits of pottery and smooth glass and the archaeology managed to maintain their attention for longer than expected!
