Custom House 31/10/08
The 31st October was the first visit to the foreshore at Custom House by the TDP team – a very famliar place to Gus and Nat, but very new to me!
I was overwhelmed by the amount of archaeological features that are there, some of which are eroding badly with the destructive power of the scouring tide. I saw the remains of boat, barges, gridirons, wharves… And how many people are aware that these things are right under the noses of City workers?
Custom House looks like a major piece of survey work, and will be our training ground where new FROG members can cut their teeth… Although it was cold in late October, I dread to think how cold it will be for the first training sessions in February! I must invest in some thermals….
