Scheduled Ancient Monuments
Queenhithe, Greenwich and SS Great Eastern
There are three Scheduled Ancient Monuments on the River Thames foreshore in London – these are areas that have been statutorily designated by English Heritage under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act of 1979. Damage to an ancient monument is a criminal offence, and any works taking place within one require Scheduled Monument Consent from the Secretary of State.
Maps showing the three scheduled areas at Queenhithe, in the City of London, in front of the old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and at the launch site of the SS Great Eastern on the Isle of Dogs are reproduced below.
