Gustav Milne, our project director and all-round Thames expert, will be giving a lecture about the Gresham Ship at the Museum in Docklands on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 13:10 – 14:00:

In 2003-4 the remains of an armed Elizabethan merchant ship were discovered in the River Thames. The contents included a gun stamped with the insignia of Thomas Gresham, the famous Elizabethan financier (1519-1579), and part of a valuable cargo of metal ingots and iron bars. The ship and its contents are now being studied as part of a five-year project by researchers in London, Portsmouth and Denmark. Archaeologist Gustav Milne from University College London will explain how the ship was found and what the research has revealed so far.
