Tower Extravaganza
We had a TDP information stand at the Tower of London Archaeology event yesterday. I took a group of 9 children and 5 adults from the UCL Young Archaeologist’s Club down onto the foreshore for an artefact session. We were originally planning to go down onto the Tower foreshore, as this had been opened especially, but by 10.30am, the queue was 100 + people strong! Everyone and their gran must have been out, armed to the teeth with spades and trowels, perhaps looking for Royal treasure…shame it was so muddy…
In the end, we went to Custom House, which we had all to ourselves, and spent a very happy hour searching for clay pipes, shells and interesting bits and bobs. I am sure some of the children’s parents weren’t too pleased when they came home with huge bags of the stuff…but they were all so excited to be picking up real historical artefacts. 100% job satisfaction achieved!
